Quote I Loved:

"Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness." -  Yousuf Karsh

Things I Am Thinking About:

When I think about being healthy a few things pop into my head. The fuel you put in your body is key. You need to be intentional about what you eat and drink, when you do it, and how much you do it. The amount and type of exercise definitely matters. Getting a great night sleep is at the top of the list. One thing I traditionally didn't think of but am starting to more and more is emotional regulation. I think this is really underrated.

When I'm listening to influencers the most popular advice I hear is to develop will power and just stick with it. I think that is extremely important, but it can only take most people so far. After all, will power is a finite resource. Eventually you are going to come up against a tricky thing called emotions.

For me, negative and uncontrolled emotions are the biggest thing that gets in the way of a healthy life. Negative emotions lead to stress, which increases my cortisol levels, messes with my sleep, disrupts my digestive tract, etc. It also affects my actions. When I'm stressed, frustrated, or sad I'm quick to grab for a desert, overeat or pour a drink.

Emotional regulation is the unsexy health hack. Actually dealing with your emotions, instead of suppressing them? That sounds exhausting, but to me, it also sounds crucial. If we could get our emotions in check, everything else would flow so much easier.

Questions I'm Asking Myself:

How can I regulate my emotions better in the moment? What systems and tools can I develop to help others regulate their emotions?

Favorite Photo From the Week:

Last week I went out to Scottsdale for one of my best friends bachelor party. We played paintball and what a rush! I have a few bruises, but the other team had more.

Till next week, be kind, be curious and work hard.
